A deep-water harbour with a clifftop temple over it and Pigeon Island reef offshore, at its best when the west coast is under monsoon.
Every route we run through the east coast passes Trincomalee, and the question is never whether to include it but how many nights it earns. Our answer is 2–3 nights — enough to see it at the hour it is worth seeing and still leave in daylight.
